Racial Features
Microscopic Swarm
You are a colony of microscopic technovirions that normally travel together as a shifting motes of filaments and cilia. While not merged with a host, you occupy a roughly humanoid silhouette of swirling motes that is considered Small. You can squeeze through openings large enough for a Tiny creature, and you are able to occupy spaces no larger than 6 inches wide between surfaces. You count as a creature for effects that target creatures, but when outside a host you have vulnerability to crushing and area effects that would disperse fine particulate swarms (DM adjudicated). You are immune to disease and to the poisoned condition while outside a host due to your constantly renewing internal nanostructure.
Usage: Always
Symbiotic Inhabitation
You can enter and inhabit willing humanoid or construct hosts. When you inhabit a willing humanoid host, you occupy it fully and use the host's physical form for movement and actions. While inhabiting a host, you retain your race traits, proficiencies, and mental ability scores (Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma), but you use the host's Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution for attack rolls, skill checks that rely on physical stats, saving throws, and hit points. The host is conscious and aware and cooperates while willing, sharing senses. While inhabiting an unwilling creature you must succeed on a Charisma (Intimidation) vs. the creature's Wisdom (Insight) contest; if you fail, the target is unaffected and you are expelled. If the host dies, you are ejected and must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC set by the DM for environmental dangers) or take significant harm to your motes.
Usage: No limit (requires willing host for lasting merge; forced possession is contested)
Machine Affinity
You have an instinctive rapport with constructs and devices. You gain proficiency with one of the following tool kits of your choice: Tinker's tools, Smith's tools, or Thieves' tools. You have advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) and Intelligence checks to identify or understand architecture, clockworks, and magical item function. You can attempt short, nonmagical repairs or simple modifications on machinery during a short rest; doing so grants a small, DM-determined bonus (such as +1 to an item's function or restoring minor hit points to a construct).
Usage: Always
Adaptive Nanomatrix
Once per long rest as a bonus action, you may reconfigure a portion of your swarm to grant one of the following benefits for 1 minute: +2 to AC (as your motes form a reflective exosheath), advantage on Stealth checks (you compress and dampen sound), or resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical weapons (you disperse impact). If you use this trait while inhabiting a host, the host gains the benefit instead of you.
Usage: Once per long rest
