Monster Description
The Desecration Gardener is a colossal abomination born from the mingling of dark necromantic magic and the curses of the dead. Its form is an unholy amalgamation of soil, roots, and the putrefied remains of countless buried bodies. Towering above even the tallest trees, this undead creature moves like a blight against nature itself, leaving behind a trail of decay in its wake. The Gardener bears a twisted staff, a symbol of its dominion over the dead and the corruption it sows. Its presence poisons the land, turning fertile earth into tainted ground where nothing may grow, only death prospering in its place.
Monster behavior
The Desecration Gardener prefers to lurk in areas where the veil between life and death is thin, often amidst graveyards or ancient battlefields. When it encounters intruders in its domain, it uses its corrupted aura to sap their strength from afar while summoning undead minions to distract them. The Gardener has no qualms about combat, relishing the pain of the living while employing its powerful physical and magical abilities to maintain total control over the battlefield. It will retreat if heavily damaged, haunting the nightmares of its foes long after an encounter, promising that its work is far from complete.
Ecology
As an undead entity borne of dark magic, the Desecration Gardener does not fit into the ecological chains of living beings. However, it plays a crucial role in its dark dominion, acting as a natural force for death and decay. It reduces vibrant ecosystems to wastelands, drawing the essence of life into itself, filling the lands with the echoes of the dead. Anything that remains in its habitat is altered, becoming hostile and vile, and all living things tread carefully, for the Gardener often preys upon them when least expected.
History
Legends tell of a great druid who fell victim to the grasp of evil long ago. Bound to serve a death deity, the druid's spirit became twisted, and from this tragedy, the Desecration Gardener was born. For centuries, it has roamed the forests, graves, and battlefields, leaving a trail of ruin. Many adventurers have sought to stop its corruption, and some have succeeded temporarily, but the Gardener always returns, as it is eternally tied to the dark forces from which it emerged; a cyclical fate that keeps its terror alive throughout the ages.
